View Full Version : virtual reality dizziness

Hi...I was just wondering about something. I few years back I went with my family to a virtual reality amusement place (which will remain unnamed)
After playing one game with my kids ( a raft trip down a computer generated, dinosaur infested river) I became very dizzy and felt nauseous/carsick with a strange headache, which lasted for several hours. All I could do was sit and wait out the experience (which was supposed to be fun) while my kids went from game to game.
I know that with MAV, people tend to be overly sensitive to motion and are more likely to get motion sickness. This leads me to wonder if this thing has had a *very* gradual onset for me and perhaps has been going on for years, mildly, and only provoked under certain conditions, and has recently intensified within the past year.
Just wondered if anyone had any thoughts on this, and also if anyone has experienced something similar with video games, etc.
Thanks
Elisabeth

Dear Elisabeth, Yes, I can say that for me with MAV things like computer games, the computer itself, tv, anything of that nature can really set me off. On the other hand, anything these days tends to do it!! My eyes seem to catch any movement at all going on around me, ie: if something is flickering or flashing I can pick up on it immediately and feel very odd and sick from it. I also notice when I am in motion perse I feel semi good but the minute I stop I am way off balance/off kilter. An example of this and one which is most upsetting to me is that I drive a motorcycle, both my husband and I, and last year we went on several trips and I was miserable the whole time. Even for days when we were at our destination sightseeing etc. I was messed up from the hours having driven on that bike. Its upsetting because I love to do it so much and hate to be a killjoy to my husband. So, I guess this is just another thing to deal with with what we have. I did notice vaguely over the years a weirdness that would wash over me at times, like when walking down a long corridor or in a store I would feel yucky for a brief time and not really even enough to make anything of it but since this has kicked in for me full tilt boogie I am on a constant tilta whirl and wish I could get off. Oh and btw, I have awful visual crap that is with me pretty much 24/7 for the past year as well. Alot of afterimages, shimmering, flashes, things in my periphery that make me go Whoa!! is something there!!! It goes on and on and on and on........When does it end is what I want to know because so far it sure as heck isnt letting up for me.

Take care,
Kim
