I saw my doc on Friday - said things are looking well, and that I could try a floppy sneaker (???). I was so excited to get out of my surgical shoe. My husband and I went out that night to shoe shop - BIG revelation First - I couldn't find anything floppy - except a converse sneaker which was too narrow for my post-surgery foot. I normally take a 9 1/2 womans medium width. I was told not to try to force my foot into anything. I ended up with a men's 9 1/2 EE sneaker and a 9 1/2 suede shoe with a wide toe box - both fit reasonably well on my other foot as long as I tighten the laces and wear men's socks. I also found a pair of womens 10 1/2 clogs with a heel on clearance which should be okay as well.
I proudly wore my new sneakers to a friends house for dinner last night, it was reasonably comfortable, though I still am not walking heel to toe cause my toe is still puffy and it won't roll well. After dinner and a few glasses of wine, I came home, took my sneaks off and found that my swollen foot was now twice its normal size - and so was my calf! So I iced and elevated - it was still swollen this am. I have to laugh - it only hurts when I do my exercise, but this swelling stuff is interesting - and supposedly it can continue for 6-2 months! NIce to be able to share with those who understand!
Okay - now its MOnday - 2 days of shoes and my ankle swells and hurts - last night was a tough night it was like all the bones in my foot ached - today I was doing good - took my shoe off to ice and elevate - and again my ankle is soo sore - sound familiar to anyone?
