My wife has stage 4 metastisized, lung & brain, colon cancer first diagnosed in 98 & has undergone several operations, chemo & radiation treatments & tolerated all ok, usual side effects. She was in remission 06/04 but it returned in 08/04, lungs & brain. She underwent 14 days of whole brain radiation 09/04, gamma knife radiotactic surgery 10/04 and chemo (Lukovorin, oxaloplatin, avastin & ???) 11/04-12/04) The surgery results appear positive, shrinking tumor & no swelling. The chemo side effects have been devastating. During & after 4 treatments every other week she became increasingly weak & bedridden. It was so bad chemo stopped & she began hospice. After 2 mos in hospice her condition improved to the point she was discharged from hospice and had PET, CAT and MRI tests. All results were good, remission again. The problem is that over the past month or so she has become increasingly weak, little or no muscle, can't get out of bed on her own, little or no apatite & increasing loss of memory. The oncologist says results probably due to radiation and gamma knife & rad doc says results probably due to chemo etc. Very frustrating. My wife is in remission but incredibly sick & getting worse. Any thoughts?
