Is it a fact that if there is bright red blood in your stool that it is more than likely only hemmoroids? And if there is a problem...like a really bad problem with the colon...that it would be shown by the blood being dark and making your stool dark?
Today for the first time during this ordeal I had quite a bit of bright red blood--to the point of it dripping (sorry for gross details). I haven't had a problem with hemmoroids since the birth of my last child (almost eight years ago) and I didn't think I was having problems with them now...but my dad has problems with them inside of him and I suppose one could have them and not even know it, right?

Penny,
I don't know if it is a fact or not, but I had a small amount of bright red blood on the toilet paper for a few months. I was very worried and finally had a colonoscopy done last week. They found a small internal hemorrhoid, and that was it! I hope that helps.

I also had blood in my stool, the doctor gave me a test to take at home for 3 days, (sample test), I just got the call that 1 out of 3 came back possitive... they want me to take the test again... I am pretty scared... bright red in the stool and no blood on toilet paper... anyone have the same thing?

I had the same exact thing happen to me. I had a colonoscopy in Jan. 05', and it turned out to be internal hemroids, with 2 extremely small polyps. The doctor told me that the hemroids were not bad where I needed surgery. He prescribed some suppositories, told me to purchase a donut, becuase I sit all day at work, add more fiber to my diet, and drink 2 to 3 liters of water per day, and try to exercise at least 30 minutes per day.

I have had hemroids on the outside which are bothering me now but what are internal hemroids. I am having very dark stool just started this Tuesday. How long does a colonoscopy test take I guess I should have one done

Hey, that's a great question...well...not so much how long does the "test" take, but how soon do results come back? I'm sure if something has to be biopsied then it would take a while, but if something is really wrong (bad wrong, that is) will I find out right when the test is over?

I have had diarreah and loose stools for three weeks. Just now my stomach is starting to feel better. But today, I was at restaurant and when I went to the ladies room found that the toilet was loaded with bright red blood. Scared, but remembering that hemroids inside can break and cause that, I wondered if this was the END to my diarreah too. So when I came home, and went potty, instead of a bowel movement, bright red blood poured out. Keep in mind that I have probaby had food poisoning or something for three weeks and now just getting back to normal, then this. Any ideas, comments? Question I have is would I get hemorids from going up to ten times a day potty?

Bennie:
A colonoscopy literally takes less than 5 minutes... a little more if they need to biopsy or remove polyps. Test results typically come back in a week or so.
One Cent... Dark stool indicates bleeding from higher up. Internal hemmorhoids are roids just beyond the anal orifice... External can be seen and felt. If they suspect/find a tumor upon coloscopy, they will give you prelim results... but, you do need to wait for confirmation as to histology... what type of cells exactly.
Babes... See a GI Specialist ASAP. They will probably want a stool specimen to rule out food poisoning, and or start you on antibiotics. Otherwise, you will need to be scoped to see what is going on.
GOOD LUCK ALL,
CancerDad

Thank you very much, I know it will take time to get an appt., with a gastroendorologist but in the meantime I have an appt with my internist monday afternoon. Today I picked up metamucil wafers, acidophilis, tuck pads, and preperation H hemroid suppositories. I am hoping this will help til then.
