Does anyone know if hayfever can develop into asthma? My husband starts out with headache, nasal stuffiness, sneezing etc. This happens after being outside all day.It usually starts effecting his lungs and he starts coughing up green mucous. He can't hardly breath.

The hospital said it was emphysema but I don't agree. Why would emphysema start out with headaches, nasal stuffiness and sneezing?
Wrong diagnosis?

There is no mucous associated with asthma. It is just the inability to get enough air to breathe. Hayfever won't cause asthma though there is a strain of pneumonia that can. In fact, that's what caused mine at age 50. I'd get a second opinion but if he has emphysema, it is VERY serious and must not be taken lightly.

thanks I think it is from allergies since he started with runny nose(clear drainage) headaches, then the lung congestion. I know allergies can make you sicker then a dog.
