My husband, recently diagnosed with an AVM...a type of BIG anurysm went to the SS office to apply for his disability. It was a JOKE. The person conducting the interview was the most disinterested person I have ever seen....He took all my husband' info...personal and otherwise. He then pulled up his earnings statement. He asked every question, which I understand BUT after he asked everything.......he then said that my husband was not NEAR death and that he had to be off work one full year!!! HA...I have MS and got my SS after 6 months. I called a congressmen and had her call the SS board. We are going back after his surgery...maybe a head bandage will help....(needede a lil humor there). I have found that it is easier if you are a drug addict or alcoholic in recovery...no offense....my husband is going to NEVER be able to work again......he need his SS..we need it....money does not fall from the sky.......Kahlia

Is your husband actually suffering any symptoms from his AVM/ If not he may have trouble getting disability.i am very familiar with AVMs as I was thought to have one in my spinal cord until some testing proved it to be a cavernous hemangioma instead.basically the low pressure form of AVM.where is his AVM located?I only ask as they can turn up in many different places.I am gathering from your post that the AVM is indeed accessable though surgery? What is his overall prognosis?
unfortunetly, disability looks at what you can still do inspite of your disabilitys.if he is still able to do his daily living stuff and use all extremities, sit or stand for average periods, you will have a very tough time im afraid,in proving that he cannot work.it sucks but thats the way this all goes. Can you tell me more about the exact AVM location and any symptoms he is currently suffering from?Hang in there.
