My son is almost 2 now. When he was an infant, he was on Nexium for "reflux". The gastrointerologist stated that is wasn't necessarily "reflux" but more that the bottom of his stomach and top of his instestines were inflamed and agitated. He would spit up ALL the time. We lived with burp rags on us.

Well, at about 10 or 11 months, he stopped spitting up. We took him off the meds. He then developed asthma at about 13 or 14 months. His asthma specialist stated that reflux could worsen asthma symptoms and had a milk test performed on him. The nurse left a message yesterday saying that I need to call her back because they need him to see a GI dr. I haven't spoken with her on the phone yet, so I don't know exactly what they found.

Is it possible to have GERD without showing actual symptoms (he never complains of his tummy or never spits/throws up anymore). I'm just trying to figure out what this could be.

quite common for GERD to be causing health issues without the obvious symptoms of reflux. Many people can suffer a type of ashma that is agrivated by GERD also. I hope that your sons symptoms do settle down though.

Blasterboy, have you had the surgery? If not, when? If so, how are you doing?

alleigh, try not to worry until you talk to your doctor. i know it is hard but as a mother of two, i learned the hard way, it is wasted energy that will just deplete you.

I'm having the surgery tomorrow afternoon :-/ I must admit I'm somewhat nervous, but I am looking forward to my 1st glass of orange juice in a long time :-) I'll post on how it goes once I'm out of hospital.
