I just had a vaginal hysterectomy on the 7th of this month. I just went back to the doc today for post op exam. He said everything was fine and couldn't be any better. But appearantly, I over did it over the weekend, and I thought something was wrong. I was having pain when sitting & felt like I did right after surgery- like everything 'down there' & inside was swollen. I had been using heating pads on my stomach and back & it seemed to help so I didn't take as much pain meds. I had also been sitting in a recliner quite a bit, instead of actually laying down. So I thought maybe it was a combination of things making me feel that way. I was just wondering if anyone else had had anything like that happen to them & if anyone has (or known where I can get one) a schedule or sorts to go by for recouperating. I don't want to overdo it again, but I don't want to 'under do it' either. I want to get back to normal just as soon as I can. Maybe I'm just too impatient! :) ANy suggestions welcome!

I've not had a hysterectomy, but am recuperating from an umbilical hernia repair and I felt the same way you do up until about a week ago...and it's been almost two months for me.
I thought I'd hurt myself because I felt the same way just like a day or so after surgery, but I shouldn't have at 3 weeks post op. My surgeon checked me out and said everything was fine and that I shouldn't have been lifting my groceries from the car to the house so soon. (I think that's what did it)
So I let people help me and didn't even vacuum for weeks and now I feel pretty much normal, but like I said, it's been almost two months now. Mine being a small little hernia repair is probably nothing compared to your hysterectomy, but if I felt the sort of symptoms you're having, it's no wonder you feel the way you do.
I can only recommend is to let others help you out when you can...I know, it's hard watching someone do something for you that you would do differently, but it's for your own best interest. I am not a good patient. I'm always the one taking care of everyone else, so it was difficult. Get out and walk everyday, that will give you some sense of being active even if the things you are used to doing are put on hold for awhile.

I had a vaginal hysterectomy on the 7th too. I have the feeling that I am swollen inside there and I am still sore. My Dr. said that it is normal to feel that way. Its only been 2 weeks. He told me not to lift anything at all or push on anything. He also said that I should not bend over to pick up anything.
I think we will just have to be patient for a little while. It is very hard to sit and do nothing but its better than busting something loose in there.
Good Luck!!!!
