View Full Version : Watery ear problem

Hi all,

First time I'm posting on this forum. For a long time I've had some trouble with my left ear, a little bit loss of hearing, I notice, and an awful lot of wax build-up. This winter, while struggling through the cold season, I developed a somewhat watery ear--always feels like it's draining. Also, the node behind it gets a little tender periodically. I made the mistake of using a wax softener and it got so infected I had to use ice to bring down the swelling. After cold season I thought things would be OK, but every time I get it wet, like in the shower, it gets sore and drains. I've started using cotton whenever I get near water, and that seems to help. But it just won't go away completely. If I sleep too hard on my ear, get too close to loud noises/music, get it wet, etc., it gets infected and watery. I haven't experienced any dizziness, so don't know if this means inner or outer infection. Any suggestions?

Thank you so much in advance!

Your prob sounds middle ear related - a possible problem with the eustacian tube - you need to see an ENT doctor.

Def not inner ear related - you would have vertigo/dizziness and not the infection/drainage/wax as you describe.

Thanks so much for the info! Can you tell me if that's the same thing as adult glue ear? I really appreciate the response. :)

Kind of...but to have ETD you dont necessarily have to have glue ear - have a search on the net for ETD. Good luck xx
