Hi my grandson has athethoid cp I am not sure if I have spelt that right. He is nothing like they prepared us for he is a darling and will be 3 in July my daughter had a uterine rupture during his delivery and he was on life support with no brain activity at all plus all of his organs had shut down, and somewhere along the way everything turned around, he can talk knows his numbers and letters and is learning to walk with a walker so noone really knows the ooutcome of cp children it is my understanding that the most harmful thing is to delay diagnosis and the doctors always to that because no one wants to give that type of diag. I have been seaching for a good site for 2 years and this is the best there is. I hope things go ok and you find someone with similar conditions to help you along. God Bless Jerri

My daughter is now 5. Has ataxic cerebral palsy, but walks without assistance. Everyone wanted to put her in a helmet and I refused. She falls, but never really hurts herself. She can now walk up and down the stairs alternating her feet.
She was dx at 24 mos and is doing well in early intervention services. She her old teachers see her they always gasp with surprise that she even talks.
Her first teachers were wonderful, but she has thrived in a setting that had higher expectations for her.
My concern now is - behavioral problems. Does anyone know of anyone doing research studies regarding ataxic cerebral palsy? Does anyone know of a proven linkage between CP and attention-like or autistic-like behaviors?
