hi,
i'm having to consider this surgery for my 7yr old daughter. She already passed the test injection. does anyone have any thing to calm our fears over this large surgery?? We have heard from all therapists that they notice no change, however the parents state that its easier to dress their child. I need more incentive than that to put her through this big surgery.

Hello there...Im not exactly sure what type of surgery your daughter is getting....i wish i could help you out...can you write back to me and explain what the surgery is supposed to do for her...whats wrong with the way she is now?
My 4 yr old daughter who has CP had surgery about 2 yrs ago...her left hip was 90% out of the socket...let me tell you...that helped her alot!! If she hadnt had the surgery...there would most likely be NO chance at all on her walking in the future....shes still not walking yet...but shes only 4....It deffanitly did loosen her up a little...
hope to hear from you soon..

Hi. I am new to the site, first post. My soon to be step-son (Getting married June 1) is 9 years old and has CP - spastic quadraplegia. He just underwent hip surgery the end of Febrary as well. Came out of his body cast a week ago. How long ago was your daughters surgery? He seems to be in alot of pain (I realize its only been a week out of the cast!!) but we are concerned about what to expect as far as his recovery. Was it long before your daughter was feeling better after her surgery? He has never walked and only has a few words, has g-tube for feeding and diapers, wheelchair etc. He army-crawled pre-surgery, but is not even interested in trying that right now. Any input from anyone would be appreciated!!!

i have a bacalfon pump surgery when i was 15 and it helped me alot but it all depends on how much effert is put into the physio followign the operation.
With me my mom made me do phyiso for 3 hours a day, plus my regular physio throught school. Now casue of the pump i have been able to use elbow churtches.

I am 22 with Spastic Quad CP and currently looking to have the baclofen pump surgery if the trial doses are successful. Anyone who currently has the pump, can you give me your experiences - good or bad?
Thanks,
Lisa

IN YOUR SEARCH FOR INPUT ON YOUR DAUGHTER-I HAVE A 7 YEAR OLD WHO HAS HAD THE PUMP FOR 3 YEARS NOW. HE HAS SPASTIC DIAPLEGIC CP-HIS LEGS WERE TIGHT-UPPER BODY NOT SO TIGHT. WE HAD ALREADY BEEN THROUGH THE HIP SURGERIES, BILATERAL OSTIOTOMY, THIS WAS A LAST RESORT-AFTER SEVERAL DRS, HIS THERAPIST,AND I OBSERVED HIM-IT WAS EITHER THIS, OR TENDON CLIPPINGS EVERY SO MANY YEARS. AFTER THE LAST BODY CAST, I NEVER WANTED TO SEE ANOTHER ONE!!!SO I CHOSE THE PUMP. IT WAS NOT A GOOD EXPERIENCE FOR EITHER OF US. THE FIRST CUT DIDN'T HEAL PROPERLY, THEY SEWED IT UP AGIAN, THAT GOT INFECTED, THEY HAD TO DO EMERGENCY SURGERY TO PREVENT ANY SPINAL CORD INFECTION. THEN THERE WAS THE CONVINCING HIM THAT A COMPUTER INSIDE HIS BELLY WAS COOL, AND THAT IT WAS OK FOR HIM TO HAVE-BECAUSE IT IS VERY NOTICABLE. THE MEDICINE IS DESIGNED TO TAKE AWAY TONE-THAT IS WHAT HE HAD BECOME DEPENDANT ON TO SIT UP, AND CARRY ON DAILY ACTIVITIES. OF COURSE IT IS ADJUSTABLE, BUT FOR HIM TO HAVE GOOD FUNCTION OF HIS UPPER BODY, WHICH DURING SCHOOL IS ESSENTIAL, HIS MEDS ARE SO LOW HIS LEGS STILL SCISSOR IF HE TRIES TO WALK ON A WALKER-IT WAS VERY MUCH EASIER TO DRESS HIM, AND GET HIS LEGS APART, AT FIRST. BUT HE IS LEARNING TO DO ALL OF THAT ON HIS OWN NOW. MAKE A LONG STORY SHORT, I WOULDN'T DO IT AGAIN IF I HAD THE CHANCE TO DO IT ALL OVER. I WOULD WAIT UNTIL HE WAS OLDER, TO HAVE SOME INPUT.
