Hi, I just recently had some blood work done to check my platelet level and everything looked perfect the doctor said. What I'm wondering is what all do they look for when doing a platelet check? If something was wrong, say cancer or something, would this show up?

My daughter has her blood work done every day , she has ITP. The blood test give the doctors basic information on your levels. Whites ,Red, Platlets, ect...The levels are looked at to see if you are high, low, or at the level you should be. When your levels are not in the correct range it tells them some thing is not right but it does not tell them what is wrong. Say you have white cells that are high, this could mean you have an infection. Usually cancer will affect the white cells, and make them high, but the white cells will usually continue to rise. Like my daughters whites are high and because of that she had to go get checked for lukemia. which is a differant type of blood test.Hope I have helped you
