Hello,
I have thyroid disease (for 3 years now) and along with this I have developed HBP (152/112). They have been trying to get me to take meds for about 9 months now. THe first was maxzide - I got so faint exercising I stopped it after one week. This past week, they gave me 20 mcg of Benicar. I am having a little dizziness and feel very sluggish - but it knocked the BP right down (97/72). I got permission to cut them in half - but can anyone tell me if the dizziness and fatigue will go away once I've been on them awhile? (and how long?)
Thanks very much
Kathy

Hey Kathy,

With Benicar and the other meds in this same class (angiotensin 2 receptor blockers) I can almost guarantee the lightheadedness and lethary you're feeling will disappear soon. Give it a few weeks...even a month or 2 (altho' I think it'll take even less time before you feel much much better).

The ARBs are virtually side-effect free for most folks, so hang in, it's worth it, especially since you are having such great BP control on it.

The 20 mg Benicar did nothing for my BP, as I posted in another thread. I started on 40 mg today. I too was wondering about the tiredness.

Thank you so much! I will definitely give it a chance! I am taking so many meds (with thyroid etc) that it doesn't take much to make me want to stop one...so thanks so much for your message - I will give it at least two months....Kaco - hope you will feel better soon too!
Thanks so much,
Kathy

You're lucky to have such great results with an ARB, and with a little more luck you'll be able to stop taking it eventually.
