Hello there

I'm writing regarding my 3 year old son. He is a healthy and happy little boy, but his speech is well below average for a child of his age and indeed, I know two year olds with better speech than him. He is currently being checked out for autism and a possible brain injury and as you can imagine I am climbing the walls. The more I've thought about his speech though, the more I've realised he can talk about what he can SEE (it's a cat, a car, go to park etc) but he doesn't talk about anything else (if you ask him his name he doesn't answer - he can say his name but he doesn't understand the question). He seems to be in a world of his own a lot of the time, but reacts very badly to loud noises - motorbikes, drills, hammering etc. Could he have some sort of hearing problem? He obviously can hear, but I wondered if there could still be something not working as it should?

I am going to talk to my doctor as well but I thought somebody on here might have some ideas too. Sorry to go on a bit! I'm frantic and just want to know what's wrong so that I can do something to help him, he's becoming quite isolated now because of this.

Thanks in advance

Janine
