View Full Version : Can I take prenatal vitamins when I'm not supposed to take calcium supplements?

Hi. I'm brand spanking new to the board  and I have a question that someone can hopefully answer.

I have chronic kidney stone disease and was told quite a while ago to not take calcium supplements; my calcium intake has to be all natural, otherwise it goes straight to the kidneys and forms stones.

I wanted to get prenatal vitamins, because my fiance and I want to have a baby right away (we're getting married next month). My gynecologist prescribed Citrical Prenatal Vitamins, because they have a lower amount of calcium than the other brands. Can I take it? Will it form kidney stones?

Thanks for your help.

I'm 27 weeks pregnant and I have been passing kidney stones my enitre life. I travel 1 hour away to see the urologist I've been seeing since my first stone at age 14. My OB, who is local, wanted me to see a local urologist..so I have been, and I hate him. He told me last week that I didn't have any stones at all!! Friday night, guess what...I passed one!!

I went and saw him todya and told me I can drink nothing but water, and I need to stop taking my prenatal vitamins...to get invidual vitamins of what is in the pre-natals. He also told me to stop taking Tums for heartburn. WHATEVER!!! I'm going to back to see my normal urologist. I don't like this guy..

I hope that answers your question.
