View Full Version : Another surgery friday....

HI all
I went back to my MD today, and my left bunionectomy is right on course.. looks good, no swelling or bruising

I have a small bunion on my right foot as well.

To make a long story short, I am going back in this friday for the removal of this bunion, but am assured that since it is so much smaller the surgery will not require the same recovery time since an osteotomy will not be necessary..

Since I have to be off 3 more weeks anyway, I just figured I might as well go ahead and get this other taken care of.... The MD assured me that this recovery would take 2 weeks...

Wish me luck

Looby--Just not what you wanted to hear I'm sure. Take care and good luck! One question--did this just pop out in the last few weeks or did you know you had it?

Well, I knew I had it, it isn't all that bad yet, but heading that way probably in a year or so. It is sore, but not as bad as the other one. To tell you the truth, I'll be glad to get both of em over and done!

Lou--I've done the same thing as you and it really feels good knowing I don't have any more foot surgeries (that I know of) needing to be done. I did my "better" foot first but it was really borderline better medium and severe and now I'm recovering from the severe one. Actually, the moderate one was got worse from October to January so I'm glad I got it done. Good luck! Linda

Thanks all... When I woke up this morning, I thought "you must be an idiot for doing this!" but then, I also thought, maybe this will be the end to this problem once and for all, and I will feel so much better. I figured might as well go ahead, since I have to be off 3 more weeks anyway!

Good Luck today Lou! It sounds like your doctor is just removing the bump?? I didn't think that this procedure was done anymore, but I could be wrong!

Feetfirst & Joll43: Sue and I were the same day 4/4. There's not a lot of positive things around surgery but its very nice to have a surgery buddy at the same stage.

Thanks, Rollargirl - Sharon & I were four days apart when I had my left foot done; it helped immensely! Plus, feetfirst & I will both be having our second feet done, which is also helpful. No more "good foot" to compare with, unfortunately.

Hi Sue--I'm feeling okay but very frustrated with being in this nwb cast. Yesterday I went somewhere where there was no ramp and I had to crawl up 4 steps with my roll-a-bout and then scoot down on my butt. I go to the doc tomorrow and will have an x-ray. I'm hoping to get my air/cam boot but it depends on how the bones are healing. Also the pin from my hammertoe comes out. Whenever I bump the end of the pin I see stars but I know from the last one how much it hurts to get that thing out so I'm nervous. I'm keeping the pin this time for a souvenir! I've been giving myself a pep talk about the pin being like a baby--its hurts but has to come out.... Let us know if you go to the doc tomorrow--I'll keep my fingers crossed! Linda

Hi Linda,
The Doctor's office just called and I have an appointment for 4:45 tomorrow. The nurse said she thought that the Dr was going to take the cast off.YIPPEEEEE then I will go into that heavy black cam walker.Hopefully he will start letting me be pwb.I know how you feel with the nwb. I use crutches and it is so frustrating.I'm so affraid of falling.I do have to admit I'm getting pretty good with them .Geeeezzz that's a scarey thought. So if we both get our casts off tomorrow that would be great.Check in tomorrow so we can compare notes :D Good luck with that pin.Just hold your breath like I did and don't look.LOL

Sue--I'm going to beg for my cam walker too. Even if I still have to be nwb just to be able to shower, shave and use lotion would be wonderful!!!! My appointment is at 11.

Ok, today :) I get the stitch out of the right foot, and I think he is going to put me back into my REAL shoe on my left foot... I am excited, can't wait to feel a bit "normal" again. This right foot has given me more pain  than the left, and he didn't even have to fuse anything.. It might be I'm just getting a lower threshold for pain and aggravation.. Oh well, looking forward to better days! :bouncing: :p
