Well I'M NEW to GERD and havent had too much experience with it, although tonite has got to be my worst yet. I woke up because of how much this heartburn hurts with the feeling in the back of my mouth/top of throat like I had to vomit, and I did so. (sorry not trying to be gross) and my throat is sore too with mucus that I kept spitting out. Well tonite at 9:00 (its 4:24am now) I ate 5 mozzerela sticks with merinara sauce and mello yellow. This is the first time Ive had mello yellow in years, usually I drink diet pop. Would the mello yellow be to blame? I've eaten the mozzerella sticks before without problems. I have had heartburn since soon after I ate. I took 2 TUMS two different times tonite. So does this sound typical of GERD? Has it woken any of you before? With a I need to vomit cause my throut feels like its full of acid feeling? Please tell me if this sounds typical of GERD.
Thanks, I appriciate anything you can tell me!!!!!

jcmbn,
There are two things that you had last night that would send me into bad bouts of heart burn. Marinera sauce - anything with tomatoes is very bad for me and the mozerella sticks I am sure were deep fried and if you have GERD fried food should be avoided. The other thing is that I try not to eat after 6 pm. If you do have GERD it is a life style change to bland foods and eating early before you go to bed.
I hope the little info from my personal experience helps!!

I wake up alot with suspected gerd. I find that like dzybe35 that lifestyle changes do make a difference - no high fat foods, don't eat less than 3 hours before bed, prop your bed up so your upper body is elevated. Theres probably loads more tips on this board!
