My ex just called, and said that she took our 8 year old daughter to the doctor because she was complaining that she did not feel good. She said she had a tempature of of 104, and a bad caugh.

After having her checked out, and having chest xrays ... she says that the doctor said that she has pneumonia.

Of course, I am going to call the doctor today myself, and ask a few questions .... but what can I expect. I have the kids this weekend, and is this going to be like if she has a bad cold or what ..... and just how serious can I expect this to get. Of course I understand no one can really answer that question .. but just how typical is this in children.

Oh .. by the way .. she said they sent her home with an antibiotic to take.

Any help .. anyone?

Antibiotic will help her alot. Make sure that when you get her this weekend that she takes her medicine on schedule. It is very important that all the antibiotics be taken..even if she feels better.

Also, don't plan too much activity for her. Pneumonia knocks you out for a few weeks.

Sounds like you are going to have a semi-tough weekend, my friend.
Just make sure your daughter does take her medicine, drinks lots of fluids, and gets some rest. Good time to rent her favorite movie and pop some corn, and take it easy!!

Things you may want to ask your doctor: Where is the pneumonia (one or both lungs, which lobes), does he plan on doing a follow up xray after she finishes her antibiotics, and what does he think precipitated this illness?
If she runs a fever while on antibiotics, call the doctor, as she may not be taking the right medicine for the bug she has...
