I was diagnosed with ITP in May 1997. Was automatically put on 60mg of Prednisone. Now we all know the side effects of Prednisone and it is not nice.

1) Weight Gain: Drink lots of water, caffiene free coffee, teas, sodapop. Avoid drinks high in sugar and salt. The salt and sugar will cause the water retention and in 75% of people Lasix does not help.

2) More of an appetite, more like Binging: Ok, this is easy, if you have cravings for sweets, eat low carb snacks/sweets. Even substitute the candy/chocolate for apples, fruitcups. I can even give out recipies to help those cravings.

3) Acne: Try Cliniques line of Acne Solutions. Within a month my acne was gone. I had acne pretty bad and could play connect the pimples on my face. lol. Also, you can use apricot scrubs and avacado masks. Do not pop those pimples. Yuckie!

4) Mood swings: Get on some kind of anti-depressant and anti-anxiety medications when you experiance any of them! This is imperative, you do not want to cry when watching commercials and lash out when you find out your favorite cologne, nail polish was discontinued.

5) Excersize: You can do laundry as an excersize, even cleaning rooms. Also, there are tons of excersizes you can do while sitting. If you are in PT aquatic aerobics works very well

These are some of the hints I can give you all for now. Any questions, feel free to ask.

Veronica...Why not join some help groups? There are a lot of support groups to help self esteem. I was in a size 30 and now in a size 16. You just have to remember Prednisone causes water retention and there are ways to avoid that. Right now, you're in a size 12. I wish I was back in a size 12. It takes time and with support from family, friends, peers it can happen. Keep your chin up hun. It'll happen. :)
