Mccruddens 01-26-2001, 02:04 PM How do I delouse my 8 year old daughter? Lisa/Tx 01-27-2001, 02:05 PM Any drug store or even Target or Wal-Mart type store should have some over the counter meds you can use. Nix is one brand but there are several others. If those don't work you may have to call your doc for one of the prescription ones. TrickyDick 01-27-2001, 04:48 PM Hey, Don't forget to wash all clothes, towels, bed sheets, blankets (almost everything) she has had contact with..otherwise they will be back. Wash with hot water and a little bleach. If its colored, and you don't use bleach wash twice. Check her eyebrows also. Mccruddens 01-29-2001, 12:24 PM Thank you very much for the replies you have given regarding Delousing my daughter. Unfortunately I have done what you both have recommended and I am afraid none of this has worked. But thank you so much for trying to help. Susan1158 02-04-2001, 05:38 AM O hope by now that you have this under control. They are nasty varments and you have to work your buttoff to get rid of them but it will work if you keep on top of it. . You need to clean all combs and brushes as well as everthing else as was said before. Sometime the whole family need be done. Hope you are all deloused by now. Sue Bethanne 02-19-2001, 02:27 PM I used to work for a pediatrician and we dealt with this alot. Lice are becoming resistant to medications and it is not healthy to repeat treatment too often (especially sooner that 7 days) We recommended putting cooking oil on the affected area, cover with shower cap or plastic wrap, nd leave that way for about 8 hrs. Then wash with Dawn dish detergent(gets the oil out of the hair) The oil suffocates the live bugs and this can be repeated as often as needed without potentially damaging skin as most chemicals can. The medications DO NOT kill eggs though. you need to put person in bright light and manually pick out every nit. If you don't they will hatch and the problem starts again. This is important!! Babernethy 02-26-2001, 02:19 PM Vegetable oil rubbed liberally in the hair works great! The little 'buggers' are drowned and it kills the nits too. Use a baby comb to get the critters and nits about an hour after you rub the oil in. Works like a charm, every time! Lynn893 02-26-2001, 09:54 PM After you get rid of them - buy tea tree oil and put about 10 to 20 drops into your regular shampoos and conditioners to help NOT get them again. It is expensive - about $16 Canadian for tiny finger sized bottle - but lasts long time as your only using up to 40 drops per shampoo/conditioner bottles. You can get it in drug store. They also sell the tea tree shampoo for about $7 but I like the oil better as I can still use my own shampoo. Have entire family use the "tea" shampoos that you've created. My daughters school is infested. She brought it home, I got rid of them, a month later she brought them home again, that time I also got them!!! Since delousing and using the tea tree oil in shampoos, we have been lice free - 4 months now. Peace http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif earame 04-13-2001, 12:14 AM ok here ya go my 2 cents worth: A couple years ago i had this reoccuring problem, I tryed the over the counter thing like RID ect. Omg didnt work at all i thougth and thought and started looking around the house. I noticed we had dog shampoo so i called the doc and asked if it might do the trick. she said to be sure to rinse it well but it might. i shampooed everyone in the house and all animals (theyll carry that critter too) then washed and vacuumed every thing in the house. It worked. A freind of mine had to end up soffocateing the little ritters with Olive oil she soaked everyones head in it. (its heavier that reagular vegi oil). I hope this helps some. ------------------ if you can laugh at it you can live with it Topcat 06-12-2001, 04:53 AM A mixture of olive oil and tea tree oil did the trick for me. It is a gooy mess but the bugs stick to it. I also spray my daughters hair everyday before school with a mixture of 2:1 water and teatree oil. Seems to work well. I also only wash her hair once a week. joz 06-28-2001, 04:26 AM Hi, I live in England so I don't know if you can get this product in the USA, no one has mentioned it yet so it seems not!! The nit comb. It's a really fine toothed comb and when used correctly removes lice and nits (eggs). It's best used with a thick conditioner, this makes it more difficult for the lice to grip onto the hair. It needs to be done every couple of days until there is no trace of lice. It works really well on short hair , however as you said you had a girl I don't know how effective they are with long hair. There are no particular bad points to the comb, it can be used as often as necassary, it can also be used, say, once a week as a preventative, there are no side effects,it's cheap and very easy to use. Good luck. ------------------ Take care Jo craz25 07-28-2001, 03:09 PM hey, I lived in Brazil for a few years and got them from the kids there. The only thing that worked for me was a lice comb. (I think some shampoo brands here have one included). Anyway, it has really small tight bristles and will pull out the lice and the eggs. I would run it through my hair (I know this sounds sick, but it was the only way I got them to leave) and then smash them. I ran the comb through a few times a day until nothing else turned up on the comb. shygirl59 08-27-2006, 05:34 PM This problem can take a while to solve. Treating the whole family is not necessary unless you finf lice in their hair. All the family should be checked. The best way to do this is by wet combing with a lice comb. Wash the hair and put plenty of conditioner on it, then divide the hair in sections and comb each area through with the comb taking care to check the comb for lice each time it goes through the hair. If yoy find any treat the hair and wash and wet comb every night for the following 7 nights. This is to ensure that no eggs have hatched. You may find live lice for 1-2 days following treatment but they are usually dying off. If you treat someone who does not have lice you help the darling little creatures build up an immunity to the treatment. Regular checking and wet combing is the answer. No need to cut the hair as lice are attracted to the heat given off by the scalp and not the hair. I have done the above with my daughter and so far it has worked. A lot of effort needed. Good luck! |
