I know this sounds really strange, but my 2 1/2 yr old son has had this problem with irratation, cracked skin and bleeding on his penis since he was a baby!! The doctors would always try to blame it on diaper rash, but I always changed him constantly, and he is always clean. I tried every diaper rash ointment on the market, even aveeno and vaseline products. My son has now been potty trained for almost 6 months, and still has this dry peeling skin, redness and sometimes bleeding. I wash all of his clothes in fragrance free baby soap, plus bath him in special soap and shampoo. The doctor again told me, about a month ago, he had dry skin?! Can someone give me a little insight or suggestions, I feel so bad for him!!! Sorry to rattle on, hope someone has a suggestion!
Thanks a bunch!

Try and get him in to see a dermatologist. He could have exzema or some other skin condition.

Poor guy! I would really suggest constant straight up vaseline at every chance you can get to put it on! Literally layer it on his penis. You have to keep up with it all day or it won't heal another thing you may want to try that would heal it would be some antibiotic cream(that's just and idea). That might help a lot since bacteria can live in warm moist places. Good luck and I hope things turn out ok.

Thanks for your responses, I think I have finally found something that helps! I have been using Aveeno bath products, and lotion on him for about 2 weeks, and it is ALOT better! Problem is, I hope the poor guy doesnt have to use that stuff for the rest of his life?!?! O well, I guess he will get used to it. I am just happy that something is finally helping! He is such a trooper http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif
Thanks again

Hi, I am a mother of three and dealt with a similar situation. I helped my child by letting him run around naked so the air can get to the sore to help heal it. I also bought him bigger underpants to sleep in at night to keep the air moving down there. I did a little research in this matter and found that sores in an area like that take a very extended amount of time to heal because there is always something covering it. I also would try bacetracin (I probably didn't spell that right)go to the pharmacy and pronounce it how it sounds. This really worked for me over a period of a few months.
Good Luck.
