Are chapped lips the same? I have chapped lips, and I dont want to risk etting an STD....but are theyy they same as cold sores?

No cold sores are a form of the herpes virus has nothing to do with chapped lips. Of course any cuts or open wounds (like broken, chapped lips) can make it easier to catch the herpes virus. Hope this helps.

Cold sores means you have Oral Herpes (as opposed to Genital Herpes). Usually, oral herpes (or cold sores) are caused by HSV-1, and usually genital herpes is caused by HSV-2.

ALSO both HSV-1 and HSV-2 can be transmitted to both places (ie. oral herpes to genitals, and genital herpes to oral cavity/lips). Just and FYI :)
