My Sister-in-Law gave me this book. You are supposed to read it in 40 days.
It was the book the lady in Atlanta read to the guy who killed the people in the courthouse.

Has anyone else read it?

Yesterday was day 2 for me. If so, I would like to hear your opinion of day 2.

Also what you thought the book.

Day 14 clean. :)

Also what you thought the book.

This book is scripturally based ...I love it. I am thrilled the American public has
kept it on the best seller list for as long as it has been on.

I love it too, SS.

Mind if I discuss it with you a little bit?

I read Day 3 today (What drives your life?). The whole chapter was great, describing the different things that drive peoples lives. But I especially liked the line: 'You were not put on earth to be remembered, you were put here to prepare for eternity'.

A paragraph in Day 2 (You are not an accident) bothered me a little bit.

Here is the paragraph:

'Because God made you for a reason, he also decide when you would be born and how long you would live. He planned the days of your life in advance, choosing the exact time of your birth and death. The bible says, "You saw me befiore I was born and scheduled each day of my life before I began to breathe. Every day was recorded in your book!"

The chapter goes on to describe about how God has and knows our purpose. But the above paragraph, to me, seemed to say my life is pre-disposed. Or is it I do have free will but God knows what my choices will be? How did you take that paragraph.

I highly recommend the book. I want to jump ahead and read more chapters but am following the "rules" and reflecting on each chapter day by day.

Hi Gr8fulgoldfish........Thanks for the reccomendation, it sounds fascinating. It seems that ever since I made the commitment to be clean, I am more interested in spiritual endeavors. It seems that every where I turn The Holy Spirit is trying to touch me. I must say I am happy about that, but why me? I've never been very religious, always believed, but I never really tried to have God in my life full time......."there's somethin' happen' here, what is ain't exactly clear".........JT I'll pick up the book.

Very interesting.

Talk about a can of worms.

It also begs the question, if you are murdered, does that mean the killer
is only fufilling a destiny? Or was there a second equally fatal fate
arranged for you at that exact moment in time if the murder did not
take place?

Far too much for me to riddle out.

But interesting, none the less.

Hi G8G,
Ok this is my take...for whatever it is worth. Yes, our days are preordained. God has recorded everything in His Book of Life. Now this is where some may feel things get dicey. I believe that were I to decide my death..i.e. suicide, I would have exercised my right of choice; to leave God and His will for my life and in doing so...would give up my place in His book of Life. I know this is harsh but I believe suicide to be against scriptural law..against God's law for my life. I can only speak for me and my life. I don't know if this explains how I feel...I do believe we can choose our will over God's will for our life but in doing so that may entail losing contact with the Father for eternity.
Come on back...love to know what you think.
SS

PS...and does He know what I am going to do? Absolutely.

SS,
I like that thought. At least the way I interpret what you are saying is
that God has a plan in place but, one way or another, man can interrupt
God's plan.

However, the P.S. then throws me. If God knows you or another man will
interrupt his plan....because your actions are pre-determined (?), what
point was his plan?

Honestly, it's like a riddle to me. Not trying to be dismissive of importance,
but it's much like a riddle.

I'd say I'd get the book but I suspect it would just give me a headache.

Outstanding book! I see the author with some regularity because he is the pastor of the church I attend periodically.

The book really builds well on a lot of the messages he has given over the years--all bible based. It's been a few months since I read through it (a little faster than specified--couldn't put it down). It is book worthy of study.

I found a lot of what I read to be reassuring (helpful for the neurosis that can pop up in me from time to time). It's what I liked about Rick from the beginning (pre-megachurch). I joined his church about 10 years ago right as I was doing step 3.

One thing (out of many memorable) he told the congregation that I treasure (paraphrased): "In your mind, conviction comes from God, condemnation comes from the other guy."

I am very happy for you that you have been able to be involved with Rick Warren, the author, on a regular basis. Please, when you next see him, give him a hug from me and a huge TY for the effort that has gone into this wonderful book AND all the work he continues to do worldwide for our Lord.

I heard a new theory about God's plan, and our life being pre-disposed. This is from my eldest sister.

She said she compares it to giving her kids choices. Do you want to go to the circus or would just rather play in the backyard?

You know what the child is going to say but sometimes they surprise you.

She also said she does not believe God knows what decision you are going to make and that you have several parallel lives going on based on your decisions/choices.

This is how she explains deja-vu. You feel like you have been somewhere before because a similar parallel life has already been there.

Its a theory and as valid as any others I guess. So I will give it some consideration.

They have also come out with A Purpose Driven Life book for women that I saw in the store the other day. It talked about priorities etc...I don't remember the exact title and it wason't written by Rick W. either but someone who does a Bible study in that Church.

My dad sent it to me and i have not started on it yet. i flipped through it a little but for me it is too god and scriptual based. maybe it is my guilty consiciense that keeps me from it. i cry in church for some reason too. don't ask me cuz i don't know why.
