View Full Version : Pain after temporary filling removed... Hmm..

Dear all,

On Friday I had to have a temporary filling removed from my upper right one root canaled tooth and a permanent filling put in its place. I didn't have any anaesthetic for the procedure as the nerve has already been removed. The procedure was pain-free and I had no pain immediately afterwards. Then about 12 hours later I started getting this really intense, sharp, kind of burning type pain which feels to be in and around the tooth which had the procedure completed on it. The dentist says that it is unlikely to be anything wrong with it as the root canal looked perfect.

I am a little worried that there might actually be a problem.

Any help or advice that anyone could offer would be most gratefully received.

Many thanks.

I went through the same thing, only difference is that it was done on a tooth without a root canal done yet. I cannot afford to have the 2 root canals and crowns this year but I dont want to lose these 2 teeth, so my dentist ground the teeth down to gum level and put in a temp filling. I will have partials that go over that root until next year when my dental benefits kick in and he will rebuild the tooth and crown it. I went home pain free, novicane wore off and I was fine, for about 12 hours. Woke up at 6am with the most excruciating pain you can imagine in a tooth. It lasted a few minutes, I had a few after shocks for about 2 hours and then it was gone. That was 2 weeks ago. Not a even a tingle of pain, even when I chew on it. Hope that is the case for you!
