I started having terrible heartburn back in December out of the blue. I was put on Prilosec which helps off and on. I was then put on Reglan which seemed to help a little bit better but now I'm out.

I had upper GI done last week which showed acid reflux (duh). My doc is really hard to get a hold of and I was wondering if 20mg Prilosec is adequate or is there something better that I can ask her to put me on. I still get the bad pain in my chest and the lump in my throat pretty often. I also have asthma type symptoms which I've never had before in my life.

Also, should I now request an endoscopy? What does it show that upper GI doesn't?

Thanks in advance,
Julie

It can only help you understand your situation to get an endoscopy. Also, you will probably want to see an ent if your throat is bothering you as that may be a sign of LPR. If it is indeed LPR, concensus seems to be double ppi/day for several months for throat healing. First off, get yourself scoped (by GI and by ENT to make sure there is no damage in esophogus or throat and then work from there. Good luck and keep us posted.
