Hi, I really need some advice. I recently went out for a night and got very drunk, to the point where i cant remember much. But when I woke in the morning, I was layed next to this girl who I know, and then it all came back to me that we had unprotected sex that night. This was 3 nights ago and ive been worried sick ever since about the contraction of HIV. ive been looking up all sorts of symptoms on the internet, and keep thinking i have them. My head is spinning with worry. I darent have a test, but I did tell my girlfriend what I had done cos the worry was just too much. I know this girl that ive had a one night stand with, I have never heard that shes got anything, and she doesnt do drugs, she has 4 children. What is the chances of catching HIV from a hectrosexual one night stand in the UK. I need to know, because the more I look on the internet, the more I feel I have the signs, I cant sleep at night and my head is pounding.

Hey~
I would think you would be okay but definatally get tested in 3 months....Oh and the best advice I have for you is to not look stuff up on the internet...it seems like they take the worst case senarios...besides...any of the HIV symtoms could be anything...so just don't stress even though its hard not to but the less you stress the better...good luck and go get tested!

The chances of female to male transmission from a single sexual encounter is much less than 1%. So the odds are really in your favor.
It would be too soon for you to get an HIV test, as it takes 3-6 months for the virus to show on a blood test. I'm sorry that there is nothing that can be said to make you feel better in the meantime!
Good luck.

Please, please try to relax. Much of what you seem to be experiencing is associative guilt related to the fact that you slept with someone other than your girlfriend, you allowed yourself to get into a situation in which you did have control and that you are utilizing the internet to drive you nuts.
Listen to what people here are telling you. THe three to six months rule seems to be fairly standard. However, the likelihood of contracting HIV under the circumstances you mentioned seem fairly remote. However, just because you had unprotected sex with a woman who has four children (is she married to the same man as the one who fathered her children?), are heterosexual, and live in the UK does not preclude you from being vulnerable to HIV. You could have been less fortunate to have had a one night stand with someone who was HIV positive, have been a heterosexual liaison, and still lived in the UK and have something serious to worry about. Please, in the future, let your head and heart lead you and not the booze and your ---- (you know what).

alot of people let the stress of worrying make them seem to have the symptoms of aids especially when you obsess about it i say don't worry and then for your own peace of mind test at 3 months.

I'd be worried about other stds too. Make sure you get tested for them too. A lot of them have no symptoms and can be passed on after just one night of unprotected sex. Some of them end up causing fertility problems in the future so try and think about them too... not just the HIV.
Everything you feel, etc is going to seem like a symptom. The only way to make sure is to get tested. The fact she's not a drug user does improve your chances of not having HIV...but has she been with anyone who's been a drug user. Has she ever been with a bisexual guy? When I was getting tested for all stds they asked me those questions.
