View Full Version : LPR sufferers: How do you know if new symptoms are PPI related or LPR?

Hi again~When I went to get my Aciphex RX filled, insurance turned it down, so I was told to take Prilosec OTC for the meanwhile. I took 2 in one day, (a.m. 20 mg/p.m. 20 mg) even though the box says take one for 24 hour relief, because everyone says for LPR, PPI's twice a day are the way to go.

A few hours after I took it, I noticed a huge decrease in my burping, but my throat hurt and my nostrils kind of stung. This morning, I woke up and felt pretty great. Took one, and within in an hour, my throat felt "thick"...toward the top.

How do I know if this is LPR progression or side effects of the Prilosec?

Also, for those who got "the lump"...did you get it before or AFTER you started PPI's?

How long after your initial onset of weird LPR symptoms, did the lump show up to stay? I know everyone is different, but I want to know if there is any kind of timeline for it, or if the PPI's could be in any way attributing to it?

I also had some ear pain this morning, which I read somewhere on here, can be a side effect of Prilosec.

Insurance approved Protonix, so I will start that tomorrow. I just wanted to ask you guys before I panic. Thanks

I had the full blown throat thing way before I got the Nexium. I think you just have the next symptom. I had ear problems, before, too. I should be a spokesperson for Nexium, cause it sure has helped me.

What do you mean you think I have the "next" symptom? Is there is an exact progression? I have read that ear pain is a side effect of taking PPI's.

I had throat, neck and ear pain as well as swollen glands in my neck and chin as side effect of prilosec!!! I took it for 5 weeks and couldn't stand the side effects any more so I stopped it!!

Unfortunately, because these areas are so interconnected, it can be hard to know if it is a progression of the original GERD or if it is a side-effect. I know on 300mg of Zantac I was so nauseous I was nonfunctional. Protonix made my throat swell and made my burping worse. I am now on Nexium twice a day (few weeks), still have break through acid with some heartburn (but is better than before) and burning throat but the burping is SO much better and the nausea has completely gone. Still have occasional burning nose and ear pain so I associate that with GERD. Unfortunatley it seems to be trial and error to see where you stand.

Thanks...I had a terrible day Friday and a great day yesterday, where I was completely symptom free. Is it normal to have such contrasting days back-to-back? It's both encouraging and discouraging...encouraging that maybe all this is is PND or something weird...but discouraging in the sense that I could have such a bad relapse in a 24 hour period of time....I, like all of you, would like to feel better for more than a few days in a row. I get all excited and then the symptoms return for no reason at all.
