View Full Version : Question on losing body fat

I'm hoping someone can help me, I have two weddings I am standing up in this summer and I can't seem to get rid of the stomach bulge. I've always had it and it seems to be getting worse. I lost 10 lbs 6 months ago and know I've been slacking and I gained 5 of it back, I only weigh 115 lbs and I'm slim everywhere else except my stomach it makes me look like I'm 6 months pregnant (which I'm not). Can anyone offer any advice as to what worked for you to get rid of the stomach fat. I've been trying to drink at least 8 glasses of water and walk on my gazelle but I have such a busy life style that I don't have time to work out for 2 hours a night. I would like to find something that is quick and that works. Any suggestions?? Thanks in advance.

You may just have the 'pooch' which can be extraordinarily hard to lose (your body simply has more fat cells in that area sometimes). However, adding some resistance training might help your body to healthfully lose some more fat. How tall are you?

When I started doing lots of aerobics, I lost my stomach fat. I tried doing sit-ups, but they didn't work! When I did crunches at the gym on the machine it got firmer, but aerobics burns the fat from your stomach, believe it or not! I'm 50 and my stomach is flat!

Isn't it also true that women are supposed to have somewhat of a rounded lower stomach that is naturally there for future child-bearing? I know there are lots of women who are really flat there but its something to think about.

You can't spot reduce. What I mean by that is that you cannot choose what part of your body will lose fat. Fat will start coming off your body in different parts at different times. But unfortunately the fat around your waist is usually the last to go. Losing fat is a combination of two things:

1. Cardio
2. Diet

Well I'll tell you what worked for me but it takes a lot of discipline. Lower your carb intake very low. But not too low. No white sugar, white rice, or white bread. In fact try to eliminate bread from your diet for a while. You will lose weight on that alone. If you have to eat bread, eat 100% stone ground whole wheat. Plain brown rice is good. Any cereal from Kaishi or Special K is good. Don't drink anything but water and green tea. Eat 5 to 6 small meals a day spread out 2 and a half hours apart. Eliminate junk food, processed food, and fast food of all kinds. Run everyday for 40 minutes. Eat lots of dark leafy green veges, broccoli, and sweet potato. Eat most of your fruit in the early part of the day and your veges at night. Lift weights 3 times a week (don't worry, you're not going to bulk up...that takes lifting 6 days a week, hours at a time). Each time you lift, do a full body workout in each session. Make sure you include squats. The protein you should consume should be lean meats cooked, grilled, or baked - hardboiled egg whites, grilled skinless salmon, turkey, or chicken. No fryed food. With the exception of fresh fruit and veges, try to eliminate all sugar from your diet. The only fat you should allow yourself would be from extra virgin olive oil (only a teaspoon in one sitting), fish oil pills (one capsule or tablet a meal) or fish in general, or seeds or nuts (only a small amount a sitting). But the most important thing is running everyday for 40 minutes at a medium intensity. High intensity is better but I'm trying to be reasonable :) This works. Now it's all up to you.

I agree, but you don't have to run, especially if you have bad knees like myself, some of us manage to still lose fat doing other cardio, but you need to do a cardio exercise at a heart pumping rate about 5 days a week, 45 mins a day. I would say weight training 3 days a week is good, making sure you hit each body part once. Otherwise I agree with the last poster.
