I am having a Total Hysterectomy and bilateral oophrectomy through laporotomy (incision). I would like to know the recovery time. I know that the hospital stay is 3-5 days. I would like to know specifically the time after that. How long before I can go out and walk. How long before I can swim. How long before I can get back to physical activity (playing tennis). I am having this in the beginning of June, and really don't want to ruin my whole summer being sick. Any info would be appriciated.

i had a total and was only in hospital 24 hours (insurance doesnt want to pay for more then that unless absolutely necessary) anyhow home afterwards your very sore,(this is a major surgery!) tired and i had a migraine which lasted a couple days from the hormones they put me on in recovery room. it takes a couple weeks before you can really start feeling better and not hurting when you move. i tried to start doing more after 2 weeks short walks etc you cant lift over 5 lbs which a gallon of milk is 8 lbs but do not over do it or you might hurting yourself and take even longer to heal. i went back to work after 8 weeks

I just had a total hysterectomy (they left my uterus) via laparascope. I went in for a noon surgery, and then was back in emergency sergery at 11:00 pm because I was bleeding internally. But at any rate, everything went fine, and I got out of the hospital in 3 days. It is now the 13th, and I feel pretty good.
I am lightly vacuuming my tile floors, and actually did laundry last week, although I had mu husband carry the basket.
It's just the first week you have to make sure you walk around for about 20 minutes and rest for 40 minutes. Just be really easy on yourself the first 1-3 weeks. No lifting over 10 lbs. After this time, take it slow and go at your own pace. I have an SUV and find it very hard to drive that. I'm only 5' for one, and the sitting straight up bothers my stomach incisions. My stomach feels like I rode a horse. So the lower the car the better.
Hope some of this helps! Hope all goes well. I know it is the best decision I made. I had endometriosis for 10 years, 7 laparascopes, 2 children, and now a hysterectomy. I got tired of living in pain all the time.

Hey there, I am on my 3rd week from my surgery. They removed everything. My cut was from my belly button all the way down. The first 2 weeks were bad. But things are getting much better!! I still can;t lift anything, but I have been walking everywhere...and shopping...shopping..shopping!!! Be careful and dont pick anything up heavy, I made the mistake of picking up my 5 yr old and it hurt really bad. I think in another 6 weeks I will be all the way better?? I wish you the BEST OF LUCK!!!
