For the last couple of days, my 4 1/2 year old has had a cough, headache, along with a little congestion and a runny nose. The question is what brand would you suggest as far as "over the counter" cough med.
Need suggestions FAST..........Thank you

Actually a cough is good if he is coughing up anything. It is natures way of getting rid of excess sinus drainage etc. If the cough is nagging and really needs to be quieted down then you need to just pick any childrens cough syrup that contains dextromethorphan as this is the one ingrdient that will stop a cough without a prescription. If he is comfortable with the rest of his symptoms then just look for one that simply has that ingredient in it. The multisymptom ones are not my best choice since there are many times when all you want to do is quiet a cough and I don't think we need to give kids extra medications if they don't need it. Also during the day you can give him hard candy to suck on too if he knows enough to suck it and not swallow or chew it up.
