my almost 3 year old son needed an x-ray on his left pinky finger today to see if it was fractured or just jammed. He seems okay & only seems to bother him when it's touched. Anyway, his pediatrician said it probably is just jammed but get an x-ray anyway. My question is...has anyone else's child needed an x-ray & did he/she freak out over it? My son flipped out. The tech doing it wasn't exactly kid friendly, granted my son was being very uncooperative but he is just a toddler, he was scared & didn't know what was going to happen. I had to hold him down, needless to say I was a wreck when we finished, I felt so bad for him. They were only able to get one pic & the tech was not really happy about it. Now I totally understand dealing with children isn't always easy but she should of been alittle more understanding. The x-ray was negative so that was good but the experience was horrible.

I make sure my kids understand that any test that needs to be done is totally necessary and that they need to do what ever is asked of them to get it over with quickly. Since your son seemed afraid of the x-ray you should have asked him what scared him about the x-ray and then relieved his fears by explaining what would happen during the x-ray so that he was prepared. By asking him what he was afraid of it would have given you a chance to find out what was running through his mind at the time and you could have corrected any misconceptions he was having about the x-ray. Yes the technician should have been more kid friendly and I do hope you mentioned this to someone that she was not very kid friendly so her supervisor could speak with her about this. She may just have been having a bad day but your concerns still should have been brought to someones attention.
