Hello, everyone. I'm new here.
I'm about 50 pounds overweight. Partly because of antidepressants, partly because I'm getting older, but mostly because I eat when I'm not hungry. I took up knitting so I wouldn't eat while watching TV, but somehow I always convince myself that I need to eat something anyway.
I'm 37 and I was normal-weight until I was about 32, when I started antidepressants. My eating habits didn't change, but my metabolism slowed down drastically. After 32 years of being able to eat whatever I want whenever I want, I can't seem to develop any self-control. The more I try, the more I think about food and the more I want to eat.

I, too, used to be able to eat whatever I wanted--until Depo Provera. I gained twenty-five pounds in one month, and until recently, I felt that my body was doomed to always be that way. Incidentally, I am also taking a mild antidepressant.
The shocking way I have found to less (quantity) is to eat more often--a little here, a little there. It's the foundation of a lot of "diets", and I find it really works for me. When you start to eat that way, you start to be hungry—eating speeds UP your metabolism!
I used to not eat a scrap before 2:00 pm. By then I was fanta-plus-sizing (hahah) about that gluttonous lunch I was about to have. I was so ravenous that I couldn't possibly talk myself out of it.
Now I relish breakfast #1, which falls between 7:30-8:00, BK#2 (10:30-11:30), lunch (1-2), snack (3:30-4:30), dinner (6:30-7:30)... When I’m not starving, I eat sensible things, and when I’m not starving, those sensible things taste delicious. I usually combine portions of protein and carbs at each meal (chicken, deli turkey, cottage cheese, perhaps very lean beef as protein, grapefruit, apple, broccoli, zucchini & squash, etc as carb.)
I repeat and repeat: I am no expert. Hope this helps, good luck to you.

One of my problems is that when I get hungry, I get completely irrational - but eating just fruites or veggies makes me even hungrier. I have to have protein. Apparently I'm hypoglycemic. I saw a nutritionist, and she said I could pretty much eat what I want as long as I have fat or protein with it. The problem with that is, obviously, the inconvenience. I tried snacking mostly on jerky, but I got really sick of that really quickly.
I also can't eat wheat anymore, which means no sandwiches, which also means more inconvenience. Can't eat oats either, and oatmeal used to be my favorite snack at work.
