my best friend who is now my boyfriend has always had sleep disorders, but now that we are together it has gotten worse... at night he will hit me because of a dream he had in which i did something to piss him off (i'm not talking accidentally here, i'm talking FULL ON HITTING!) his last girlfriend he full on punched in the face in his sleep because of a dream he was having, (he sat up in bed, turned to her, and punched her in the face) i'm worried that it's going to get to that point...he wakes me up every night with either hitting or elbowing me (this he does on accident, though i don't know how he manages to do so when i am on the complete opposite side of the bed from him), do they have some kind of study that they can do on him to see what is going on?? because there has been times that he will have an arguement with me in his sleep and not remember it the next day (he will full on get up and out of his bed, come out to the living room, and start yelling at me for being mad that he's sleeping while i am there, and the next day he doesn't remember any of it!) so if anyone can help me, please do so!!!!! i would greatly appreciate it!!!!

Ive heard of this before
you could ask your GP for a referral to a sleep disorders clinic, they may be able to help
separate bedrooms are an option

Sounds like Somnambulism (Sleep walking)
Definately get a referral.

I went through the same thing as a kid. I would do weird stuff while I was asleep, watch tv, wander around the house, eat, until someone in my family heard me and tried to get me to go back to bed. They thought I was awake---but I was asleep---and I would start hitting and being very combative.
Check out Stanford University. They are one of the big players with regards to sleep disorder research. Do some research on your own before you go to your local sleep lab. This can help you to help your doctor find what your problem and what your solution might be.
