Hello everyone. I am new here. I am a mother of 2 and a step mother of 1. My stepson is the oldest at 10, my two sons are 6 and 2. My problem is....My 6 year old is 41 1/2 inches tall and weighs 37lbs. Every year since he was 2 I have been asking the doctors when I should start worrying about his size. This past week they finally said "OK...it's time to worry". We went in for thyroid testing and a bone scan. His thyroid test came out fine, but his bone scan only showed the "age" of a 4 and 1/2 year old. They are refering us to a Endocrinoloyist...my question is what comes next? Thank you in advance if you can be of any help to me.

My stepson is also having problems with his growth. He is 6 years old also. He was WAY below normal in both height and weight (around 36" tall and barely 32lbs at 5 years old). He was sent to the endocrinologist who did all the testing on him. His growth hormone levels came out abnormal, but only slightly below the normal level. The doc gave his parents 2 options...they could go ahead and give him growth hormone treatments (which consist of a shot EVERY day for at least 6 months) or they can wait 6 more months and have him evaluated again, in case he does do some "catching up". That was in March of this year, and they decided on the wait and see approach for now. He's due to go back to be re-evaluated, but I'm not sure when the appointment is.

Hi Iam new here as well. But i do have a son that is small for his age he is 8 1/2 he is 44 1/2 inches he weighs 40 pounds. He has seen an endocrinologist they say there is nothing wrong cause he is growing his normal height 1 to 2 inches a year. But because of his height no one plays with him in shool,he plays with kids younger than him and he acts immature for his age,he also still wets his pants which the docters told me he is just lazy,i dont know what to do anymore.

My friend recently took her 4 1/2 year old for tests and was told that if his bone age came out younger than his real age that was not a bad thing because it meant there was still time for growth. She's still waiting on her results..her 2 year old is now wearing his brother's current clothes.

I took my little boy to the endo for just the opposite. He weighs in at 55 lbs and is 37" at 2 years old. They did tons of blood work and asked a million questions. They said all it boils down to is genetics. He comes from a big family therefore he will be a big boy. My 4 year old is about 42" and she is 42 lbs.
