Hi!
I have had irritable bowel for years...I am 38. Just last week while at Disney World of all places, I had a serious problem with blood around my stool (not in it) and the strangest sensation of heartburn down in my colon or lower intestinal area. I really don't have sever pain...it's just this burning feeling there and runny stools. I had some lab work done in Florida and all was fine except for my SED rate which was elevated to 26 (20 being the high side of normal).
I do see my gastro next Tuesday, but, until then do you all have any advice like what this might be, or have you experienced the same strange symptoms??
I'm nervous...thanks!

There's a condition called diverticulitis in which little pouches form in the lining of your intestines & small particles such as seeds & nuts become caught and infect the area of intestine causing pain and sometimes bloody BMs and fever and diarrhea. Usually you have an elevated white blood cell count as well. I have a feeling the gastro may work you up for this...usually a Cat Scan or barium enema will diagnose it. Good luck.....Goody

Your symptoms sound like those of Ulcerative Colitis or Crohn's, considering you feel the burning sensation. That would also explain the elevated sedimentation rate. I'm happy to hear that you are seeing your Gastroenterologist next week. Be sure you keep track of all of your symptoms and how often you are having them. You need some work up! Hope you'll feel better soon!
