You should be going at least once a day........however the ideal is 3 meals in...3 meals out. I know that many people won't be doing this, but at least once a day is good enough. If your going only ONCE a week....that is a major problem, and you need to assess your health right away. Look at your diet/exercise. Do you intake lots of fruit and vegetables, do you have a diet high in meat? Please i would advise you to see a doctor, and even better to see a naturopath, who can treat you naturally without giving you laxatives. If you see naturpath they will help you change your diet, and give you herbs and eventually you too will be going to the toilet everyday. PLEASE dont be scared to go to a Dr or a naturopath. I myself am studying naturopathy and it is our job to ask you how often you do go to the toilet. Feel free to ask anymore questions...

My friend had the same problem.

She has been diagnosed as being coeliac (celiac- USA spelling) which means she has a gluten allergy, wheat allergy.

Your doc can test you for this, it means completely changing your diet, no more lovely bread! There are posts on this site, though not many.

Good luck.

i just watched this show on Oprah about stool, and the doctor on the show said you should go number 2 at least once a day, if you skip a day, no big deal. if you arent going at all, look at your diet, you need water and fruits and vegetables, also a big plus is eating whole wheat foods, that really helps.

I have have constipation most of my life went to numerous drs most of them said that most people dont go once a day the best way I think is when you do go is it hard do you strain allot. Have you tried taking collace or a fiber supplement. be careful of the herbs my gasternologist told me that someof them are just as bad as taking laxatives. I have since had to have surgery to remove my entire larg colon so that I can have bowel movements believe me this procedure is very rare I was a rare case of chronic constipation. You should talk to your physician first dont be embarrased I was also at first but it is worth it to talk to him you may have another underlying problem.
