I had a renal CT scan done Monday the report says that "there is identified a 12 mm isointense prominence along the lateral margin of the inferior pole of the right kidney." What does it mean? I am having a follow-up CT scan with contrast on Tuesday-for it I have to have iv fluids for 1 hr prior to the exam and then 6hrs after the exam. I also have to take four doses of mucomyst (two Monday, one before my scan and one after my scan) Has anyone had this? I have been having flank pain for a little over a month which is why they did the CT scan. Has anyone had this? I think the drs. think it is a cyst, if so what might the treatment be? Thanks. MJ

Hi Mary Jo! For me, I had the ct with contrast a few yrs ago. It showed my one kidney "white", and required me to have a cytoscopy. My report said there were 2 cysts on the lobe. After the cytoscopy I developed a severe infection, bleeding. It made things worse! I've suffered with chronic infections, bladder, urinary etc. Also had urethreal cysts, removed many yrs ago. Well after more ultrasounds found the one remaining ovary I had, also had cysts on it. They blamed the pain on that? So, I had my last ovary removed, (hysterecomy done in my 20's). I have only had a couple urinary infections since the last ovary was removed 2001. Now I am having pain in my left flank area and front low side. I think its cysts again? My xray also said I have "lucency" on my one side of kidney? that drove me nuts trying to understand what that meant? my doctor sd probably is a duplicate kidney? well they just "shunned it away" and haven't been back since. But now with this pain again not sure? I've got so many issues right now and not insured so must wait it out til my medicare starts in August. I am just trying to self diagnose for now, seeing that even when I had testing I never got a definitive answer?? Very frustrating, so just going to drink lots of water, exercise , walking that's about all I can do, ( sever deteriated back, surgeries) and eat well. Not much they can do besides surgery and can't do that right now. I found that "baths" gave me infections so now I only shower and not married anymore so that helps in that department too... I hope you feel better just do all you can health wise that is manageble without drugs and ct scans are great, be carefull of cytoscopies though!!
