I went to the doc about my endometriosis and he said that a hystrectomy was my best bet, but he would like to wait a while because I am 28 and the ovaries play an important role in heart and bone health. I would really like to have it done now, I am sick of being in pain and having heavy periods. I already have three children and don't see the benifit in waiting. He wants me to take the pill for a while to see if it will help, I've already tried that and the side effects are terrible for me. Plus there are lots of risks to taking those too. He says we will keep trying different pills untill we find one that works for me. I really don't want to go through that. How do you tell adoctor what to do? Has anyone on here had a hysterrectomy for endo? And if so at what age? Both of my grandmothers and two of my aunts had hystr. at young ages and said they felt so much better after that...and all are still living w/o heart disease and no bone loss. I just want a better quality of life.
My next question is has anyone ever had a cervical cyst and if so how long do they take to go away and can you still have sex with one? Doc didn't give me much info on this problem...Going to get second opinion I think..accualy it would be my third. I'm really getting frustrated with the situation!
Thanks for any input!!! :D

I had a hysterectomy 4 years ago at 41 due to endometrosis. While I don't regret the hyst it wasn't a easy cure. I was on lupron for 3 months before hyst, and then no hrt afterwards for 3 months.. I had to be taken off the estrogen 2 more times to get the endo to die. I've now been on the estrogen for 2 years straight with no problems with the endo.
The pills the Dr is giving you as you know isn't a cure, even lupron is a tempory fix. Have you had surgery to remove the endo? Excision surgery is good if your surgeon is capable to do it. Maybe you need a second opinion with a endometrosis specialist.
I know when I was suffering with the pain of endo I would of done anything to fix it, thats why I tried the lupron and had great pain relief. Thats what helped me make up my mind to have the hyst.

I would get another opinion. I am going in for a Hyst may 9th. I am 39 and was dx with some endo, adenomyosis, severe pelvic congestion, and there was a ruptured cyst. I have been dealing with alot of cysts on my ovaries.
If I were you I would try the pill. I have been on the pill for 8 years. It did help to get me regulated, and help the severe ovulation pain, but did nothing for my severe menstral pain. Now the pill just stopped working. They were going to put me on Lupron, but as sponge said it is a temp fix.So I opted for the hsyt.
If you feel uncomfortable with your doc, see another.
Good Luck and keep us posted

Thank you so much for the feed back!
I did have the endo removed during the lap to do my tubal...which was about two years ago. But it has come back and that only gave my about 7 months of relief. Tha doc said he really didn't see the point in doing another one because I am done having kids and the hysterectomy is going to happen it is just a matter of time. Also I have no insurance and all of this is out of pocket for me so he doesn't want to give me any unnesasary bills. I am going to try the pill one more time..I just don't like the side effects..I get headaches and hair loss and nausea. So I did try that in the past and just couldn't handle how it made me feel.
The Lupron and other things the doc mentioned would just be to expensive for me. Thats why I just want to have the hystr..and be done with it. He did mention that he would want to wait on hrt for about 2 months after surgery to let the endo die out.
Does anyone on here take prescription pain meds for the pain? He told me to take 4 Advil evry 3-4 hrs and it just doesn't help much. My first doc that diagnosed me with the endo gave me Ultram which is non-narcotic and seemed to help some. This doc just said Advil..maybe I was better off with doc #1. Not that I really want to be on anything...thats why I want to try the hysterectomy.
Oh its great being a woman!

After having my hysto. 3.5 years ago due to severe endometriosis and cysts so big I HAD to have an abdominal hysto. I would not go back to before hysto. for quids. I too had been told it was only a matter of time, and I wish I had done it sooner. There is a certain amount of freedom of life without pain and from one sufferer to another, you will be better off believe me. The recovery is a little tough but you get through that too. Just stay positive.
