About 2 times per month, I get a terrible pain which feels like its at the back of my eye. The only way to describe is that it's like a knife in my eye and lasts pretty much a full 24 hrs...sleeping doesn't make it go away (when I finally CAN fall asleep) It's only 1 eye at a time that kills, but 1 month it may be my right, then the next my left. I also get a tight neck during that time

sounds like classic Cluster Headache to me.
