i am a 36 year old male who on sunday will turn 36 years old, i don't feel 36 years young...
i am 6'4" and 250 pounds / in the year 2000 i was 190lbs and 5% body fat...

it's time to stop being fat... i know what i must do, clean my system, eat healthy and EXERCISE...

My goal is to lose 60 pounds in 12 weeks or 5 pounds a week...

i am focused and ready...

i will eat 10 oranges, 6 apples, 6 bananas, 10 almonds, 1 grapefruit, and spinach only in water and DRINK WATER all day...

i will workout 6 - 7 times a week:

the plan-

a 12 minute easy warmup walking

stretching for 45 minutes

stairmaster for 36 minutes

gravitron briefly then nautillus lower body or upperbody (days alternate)
strength training

60 minutes on the eliptical machine

12 minute abs workout

60 minutes on a treadmill walking

60 minutes bike riding outdoors or on a exercise bike

cooldown 12 minutes then stretch 45 minutes

ice feet, knees then steam room and hot tub

maybe another 60 minut bike ride or some light exercise each night

the food i consume will be taken before, during and after exercise...

Anyone else out there who has been really fit before and now has let themselves become lazy and fat?

i am tired of this and i am ready to get back to work....

Good luck to you. I am doing the same thing...trying to get "back" into good shape and good health.

My advice (if you are asking for any) is to do it for you. "Diets" can fail because they are geared towards the goal of pleasing others in general or someone else in particular. Just do it for you and you can't lose (well, you can lose...you get the picture).

Good luck and God bless.

Thanks, nothing to prove to anyone, except me... i just am tired of "letting my body go" and i know what i need to do to get back on track...
It isn't so much as i am asking for advice, but support, in knowing that there are others out there who have struggled with the same issues...
Once i was very fit, but i lost that and bit by bit i would say tomorrow, tomorrow and keep on the same path of lethargy...
i know that is "healthier" to only lose about 2 lbs a week and be more "moderate" in fitness, but i know myself and if i focus on a structured plan and keep at it i will saty motivated... Turning 36 is waking me up and it's time to be free from fat...
Of course i want to lose the weight to "look better", etc... but it's for me and how i feel and who i want to be more than any other time in my life, so i joined this group gain encouragement and to encourage others and not feel as alone...

Hi thinsoon, I wish you luck, I think most of us have been there. I myself gained 60 pounds (through a twin pregnancy, but still) and am still working on the last 7-8 pounds, which are the hardest for me because I was in really great shape prepreg. Just wanted to say, I think 5 pounds a week is a bit aggressive. I'm not talking about it being healthy or not, but I know myself, when I set goals too high and maybe only get half way there, for example in your case losing 2.5 pounds a week, I would get upset. Instead of being happy I have changed my old ways and did a good job getting half way there. All I'm saying is be realistic and don't get down if you don't get exactly 5 pounds off a week. Stick with it regardless, hope for the best and be prepared for some bad times like plateaus and diet slips, it happens to the best of us, keep us posted.

Is anyone going to say the truth here? Your "Plan" includes working out about 6 hours a day or more and eating basically nothing but fruit. While your weight certainly was better at 190, you were not in a good range if your body fat was really 5% (that may have been a typo, that seems really really low), you NEED 5% or you will pretty much die. Normal for even the most elite athlete (think Lance Armstrong) is minimum 6% but somewhere between there and 13%.

I think that if you feel like you want to get in shape you need to rethink this plan and act more responsibly to your body. You could probably do an hour or two or exercise a day, but 6+ hours! You should give yourself a break! I am 100% for hard work and dedication, but you are going to injure your body in the process. Look up on the exercise and fiteness board and ask Naxis about this workout, she knows her stuff and I guarentee she will prove to you that this is really way more than "dedication" not be "fat and lazy"

Thanks for the last message...
This is the truth...It was not a typo, i was a former high level competitive athelete...at 5% body fat...
The cultural icon Lance Armstrong was at 3% body fat as was Micheal Jordan, bodybuilders are around 2%...
i am now around 25 % body fat...
i know that in 3 months i will not get as low as 5%, but i can lose 60 pounds on a diet plan such as this and with 6 plus hours of exercise a day... i hope to be around 12% around late July...
i know my body and what it can take... i am meant and built for movement...
A injury at 31 and depression , too much food and not enough exercise and i am not myself physically... NOW THE EXCUSES ARE OVER...
As far as eating mostly fruit, some vegetables, and almonds i will be fine; the "balance" of the kinds of foods and when i time to eat them between different workouts will i have planned will give me the energy i need to burn fat and still be "healthy"... i will take in between 1,500 and 2,000 calories a day
i don't want " a break"... i have had enough of a break... i know i will be willing to live the existence of a "exercise addict", but it is better than a food addict...
i like that you or others will question the method to my madness, as it helps to motivate me to stay the course and be dedicated and not average...
If i am "doubted by the experts" then so be it...
i don't have financial job until August 1st, and 12 weeks is a perfect time period to follow such a "extreme plan"...
i am not advocating this for anyone, but myself... i welcome the doubters and supporters...
i don't mind after being in the gym working out from 7 am to 4 pm 6 or 7 days a week, if i am exhausted, burnt out, tired, light headed each night, i will just sleep and awaken the next day and keep working at it... i don't want a social life or other interests during this time, everything else is just a distraction; at night i will just watch tv, write on the computer, and read and then it is back to the gym..
for me alone is is "responsible" to my body...
Being irresponsible to my body is eating the way i have, not moving and not caring about what i became...
i am sure that some think this is too much, but i do believe that the human body and mind can adapt to anything, look at how human beings live on little food, with much work in 3rd world countries... they are an source of humbling inspiration to me as i change my life...
After 12 weeks, i will eat more "balanced" and exercise less but when the 12 weeks end i won't gourge myself on pizza and peanut butter as a "reward"... it is pathetic that i have taken my comfort in food and fat rather than facing myself... NOW IT'S TIME

AWESOME!!!!

Oh....plese quote your source for the BF for Lance and Michael. I would love to read the whole article. It seems there are a great many people on this board, and the exercise and fitmess board who do not agree.

Thanks in advance for getting those article sources to us.

Thinsoon,

I can appreciate your response, and I see that for you the factors seem to be in line for a hard-core reeducation of your body and thank you so much for throwing in there that you don't recomend this for anyone but yourself. I feel that there are quite a few younger and impressionable people who think that extreme things like this will work to get them thin for life when in reality they are only setting themselves up to fail.

However, I still think that you should try to relax a little. Michael Jordan, Lance Armstrong and professional body builders get paid to be that fit. They also have only a few peak years at that body fat percentage and will return to normal once they are done competing professionally. I dont think it is very reasonable to expect your body to stay that way forever.

Thinsoon,

Not to dampen your ardor, but it is IMPOSSIBLE for you to lose 5 pounds a week over a 3 month period.

I lost 50 pounds in 12 weeks, so I definitely think it's possible. You can lose the weight without being so extreme. I did atkins and cardio 4 times a week for 25 minutes. That's 25 minutes a day for only 4 days! Dieting is about 90% of weight loss, I don't care what anyone says!
