I read a post on here about blood in stool seeping out and turning the water red, which has now got me wondering about this other thing again. I don't really know how to describe it, but once in awhile when I have a bowel movement, some of the stool will discolor the water around it. Is this a normal thing, or does anyone else notice this, too? Not all the stool does it, just some. It's not red or pink like I would expect with blood, it seems to be the color of the stool, but I find it odd that it's happening. I hope this isn't an embarrassing question to ask but I'm not used to my stool discoloring the water around it and am wondering why it does on occasion. And it's not the whole toilet bowel that's discolored, it's only swirling around the stool itself at first before spreading. Does that describe it better? I mean, blood seeping out would actually be red, or even pink, correct? Then what is this I'm seeing, or is everyone kind of rolling their eyes and thinking, Oh geez, we all have that....

I think it may just be that your stool was not fully 'formed', a little bit loose.
Its hard to describe sometimes isn't it when you have a problem, you did give me a laugh, you sounded just like me trying to describe something.
I thought 'maybe we could post a photograph' that would make life easier wouldn't it, but then it would be rather gross for this board. the sexual health one would be a bit odd too!
Back to your problem!
If there is no blood in it and no pain I wouldn't worry too much, it is probably just something you have ate. When my bowels are in a 'normal' mood, I occaisionally have formed stools that are a bit loose in parts. I think it is just the different layers that have been made up.
I hope this makes sense for you.
Take care. X

Well thank-you so much for replying...I guess you're the only one who wanted to take a chance on answering :)
Can I ask if you yourself have ever noticed this? Does this not seem odd to you, or am I just overreacting?

Do you ever eat beets? They will do that to the stool in water. Rice will color it a light brown, beef a darker brown. Most of the time, it's what you ate the day, or two, before. Beef will harden the stool; veggies, and fiber with enough water to flush it out, will soften it. The healthier the diet you eat the more the colors will be noticable of what you had to eat. Eat a lot of greens???.....well, now you know that answer. :D

Hi Kellie2,
I've had the exact same thing!!!. I notice the stain around the stool when it is sitting on the bottom of the toilet bowl. It isn't red or black, it's almost like a yellow color once it hits the bottom of the t. bowl. I think it's loose stool mixed in with the firm stool. It's happened off and on for years, so I don't worry about it.

yes it has happened before a couple of times!
I am a bit obsessed with looking into the bowl, when you have problems it can usually tell you a lot.
I had a bottle of red wine last night (ooh my head today) and my stools looked like I had been on the iron tablets, it was nearly black!
I enjoyed the wine any way!!!

No probs Kelly2, its why we are all here, to support one another through any thing that may be wrong.
When you are talking about bowels, many people find it embarrasing, at least on here we can be almost annonymous and ask anything.
pleased you feel better. take care!
