Hi all,

He served a lot of time in the Army and was hospitalized in Korea in 55 for a back injury that may have lead to this area, now he's having diffuclty paying for his meds and everything are there any kind of Vetern's Benefits for this or is it too much later?

I'm sorry to hear about your dad. I don't know about Veteran's benefits but I do know that if he's having trouble paying for prescription drugs many of the drug companies have programs where people can get their drugs for a nominal cost or for free. I know you have to fill out forms and provide proof of income, etc. This might be something helpful for your dad. Ask his doctor or pharmacist for info. They should have it. Tell your dad we appreciate his service to his country.

i would call the local VA and see just what he is elegible for.i know the VA is pretty extensive in just what they cover for those who have served in the military. You would have to go through the VA,and use their hospitals and such but i think it would be worth it to try it.give them a call and at least check into it.Good luck, marcia

Hi Paper,

I am sorry your Dad is having a difficult time.

Get a copy of your Dad's DD214 (his separation papers). He may have a copy. If not you can apply for one for him on line at va.gov. He may be eligible for a service-connected disability. If not, he may still be eligible for his meds.

I am disabled and just got my DD214 so I can apply. There is a program that allows certain vets (I don't know all the criteria) to get their prescriptions for $7 a prescription. It may go to 15 next year.

Hope this helps.

Me and my husband go to the VA. We both served. He gets Va disability 20% so his meds for his disability are free, however, his other meds are $7.00 and I get mine for $7.00, but do not receive Va disability. If he falls below certain income guidelines then they are $2.00. Just take him and his dd214 to a military hospital and register him. They can set him up with a primary care dr. but the wait is usually a couple of months. If he falls below there income guidelines they will also pay his mileage to and from the hospital. Good Luck LMG
