Has anyone had success with taking Valerian Root at night to help them sleep? I just purchased a bottle. I bought it because it is supposed to be all natural. I have had sleep problems in the past, was on Zoloft (caused Insomnia), and a few other sleep meds. Now I am 'free' of all that. My sleep isn't as normal as it once was but it is much better and I thought Valerian root might help a little. Any ideas on the Valerian root? thanks :)

Yes I have used Valerain 2 sleep and it worked marvelously. i heard take 1 pill of Calcium with the valerian and u can sleep like a baby. I heard this from my dad. who is certified in all natural health and medicine. but u can not use valerian long term. thats why im on xanax, 2 go 2 bed, cause i deal with bipolar.

Christine, I will try taking it with the calcium. Thanks for the info! How long is it safe to take, do you know? I just purchased a bottle yesterday. Thanks!

i have used valerian too, if you can get it past your nose first. it smells like old rotting socks. but it did work well for for a time. i'm now on ambien and that works alot better.

Christine 1984,

It must depend on individual body chemistries. I have been on Ambien since the first of the year. I have a dependency in that I cannot sleep if I do not take it. I do not have an addicition because I have stopped several times. I had to suffer through a couple of days of rebound insomnia but that was all. I had no addictive need to return to Ambien. I coldly (unemotionally) chose to return to Ambien because it helps me sleep better than Lunesta, Trazadone and all of the others.
