Happy Mother's day first!
I have had 5 B-12 shots (one a week and I can feel a slight difference). It seems like when I go down, I go down just as hard but I am able to be *normal* for longer. After only being diagnosed for 5 weeks now, I am still in the process of learning how far I can push myself and how far not to. Mostly though I am frustrated with friends and family that tell me its not good to sleep as much as I do. Has anyone seen a reccommendation on how long we should sleep? I was always just told to sleep when I need to.
I noticed that the insomnia isn't as bad with the B-12 shots so that's heartening but the muscle and joint pain is still pretty much there. Anyone find anything to relieve this things?
Thanks guys, hope you are having a great day!

I still haven't figured out what's best for me and I've been ill for well over a year now.
I really don't know what amount of sleep is recommended (if there are any recommendations). I find it extremely hard to pull myself out of bed in the morning, but I do - otherwise I would probably not get up at all. I probably sleep about 8-9 hours per night and force myself not to nap during the day. At the weekend, I sleep around 12 hours Friday and Saturday nights. No amount of sleep ever seems enough, so I figured that trying to maintain my usual sleeping pattern was the best way to go.
As for muscle/joint pains, I found CoQ10 has almost completely erradicated those. Apart from the effort it takes to climb the stairs, my legs don't cause me much of a problem anymore. I'm glad the B12 shots are helping. I've never been offered anything like that, so I take it in tablet form, which seems to help a little.

I went to my doctor and requested vitamin b-12 shots and I give them to myself every other day at home. I use a dose of about 1000 mcg. It has been about six weeks and has made an amazing difference for me. I just wish I would have known about them sooner. I am also sure to take a good multivitamin that contains the other B vitamins because that's important. coQ10 helped your muscle pain? How long was it before you noticed relief. Thanks for answering my questions!
My best to you both!

Being newly diagnosed, I'm surprised that your doctor has already recognized B-12 shots as a viable therapy for you...I've been ill for a year and a half and I'm just about to start the shots on Monday after I had to suggest it! Seems like you have a good and knowledgeable doctor which is very critical.
A word about sleep...the most important thing is not so much the number of hours you're sleeping, but rather how you feel when you wake up. While its been noted that 8-9 hours of good solid sleep is the best, if your awaking after 12 hours still feeling tired and groggy, then something must be done about that. Its the quality of sleep thats important. If your sleep is broken up and non-refreshing, you should ask you doctor about this and he/she may recommend a sleep study (to rule out Sleep Apnea) and/or prescribe medications (Sleeping Pills, Antidepressants) to help you sleep better. Another good thing is to establish a good sleep cycle which means going to bed and getting up at the same time everyday, no matter how you feel. Sooner or later, your body will have to adjust to this and force your sleep to improve in quality.
About your muscle and joint pains...you should probably start with the simple things first like Advil and Magnesium/Calcium Supplements. Someone else suggested CoQ10 which could also help. If the pain is still unbearable, your doctor will be able to prescribe stronger muscle relaxants, anti-inflammatories, and narcotic pain relievers.
Whatever you do, don't quit and just put up with the bad sleep and pains...its not only totally unnecessary, but could hinder your recovery time overall. Good luck with this and the Vitamin B-12 shots...I myself can't wait to try the shots as I hope they help me as much as they help you.
