Hi I am new to this board and I have a question about ribs. I had to have a CT scan of my neck, chest, abdomen and pelvis. I was ordered to bring in all x-rays from last 2 years, well I decided to have a look at them, (I know, I know, maybe should have not looked) and I noticed I have a rib that now has a notch in it that was not there 2 years ago. Its the third left rib and the notch is anterior about 1" from the sternum. Is it possible I broke a rib in that location and did not know it? I have had at least 4 sets of x-rays in the last year and the notch is progressivly larger in each series of x-rays. I have a lump on the outside exactly over the notch this hurts and has been hurting for over a year. What is upsetting is the pain in my chest is why I had the x-rays in the first place! These were all done in the ER and never compared to the first x-rays done 2 years ago and never compared to each other. (as far as I can determine from the reports) I am a little concerned as I am seeing an oncologist for thyroid cancer and have a differential diagnosis of Lymphoma. (thyroid cancer cured by total thyroidectomy and radiation in 1992) Now am having fevers, rashes, night sweats, blood test all wacko and some bad nodes in neck that have to be biopsied in the next week or so. Am going to ENT tomorrow and will know then when the biopsy is. But I am upset that this notch is here and getting worse. I have some experience reading x-rays so I know that these are not normal chest x-rays when compared to each other. Kind of worried that my rib is close to breaking, the rib is almost gone in the notched area. Any one have any ideas? Still waiting on CT results.
