I had my upper right wisdom tooth removed last week. It was partially impacted and coming in sideways. It caused the tooth next to it, to decay. My oral surgeon is sending me to a new dentist tomorrow who uses Waterlase....has anyone heard of this? I'm a wimp to pain and I hate getting fillings. Is this going to hurt????

Hi,

I have heard of the Waterlase. They actually remove the decay on the tooth by laser. I think that it is a great thing for those of us who are afraid of the dentist (like myself). Although I have never been to a dentist who uses it, as there aren't that many that are trained in this faily new procedure, I heard there is virtually no pain and no sound of the drill.

Good luck. You can look it up on the internet and read up on it.

Let us know how you make out.

Like most new technology, the Waterlase can be beneficial or it may not be indicated. If the cavity is small, this device can be used as designed. If the cavity is deep, the heat generated by the laser can damage the nerve of the tooth making a root canal necessary. The dentist using this device should know when it is indicated and when it isn't.
