My step-son lives with us part time and spends a great deal of time at his other home and is very lethargic and not excersizing at all there. He lived with us until almost 4 years ago and was NOT overweight at all when he went to live there.
There is a huge lifestyle change between homes. We are active vegetarians and don't watchh much TV. Everyone in his other home is terrible obese. Sibling are enormous. When I speak to him about his activities they revolve around watching TV, playing video games and sitting to do homework. His stacks sound like meals.
At first he was still a little active but that active stuff only lasted a couple months. I have several questions here. I'm also certain I may not have given enough info to support accurate answers, but I have to hurry, I would not want him to see me writing this as it would really hurt his feeling (and that after lots of good body affirmations and positive image reinforcement)
At this point he is probably 5'1 and 140 lbs. K...He will not ride his bike or do other activities for long "because his legs hurt" (i think thats just muscles working)--what can I do?
I've noticed that he doesn't really want to try new things like water skiing. He is in camp and was looking forward to skiing today and when I picked him up he said he went knee boarding instead and that the skis fit but looked really big. When his friends start to run and he can't cathc up I notice that he just stops and would rather walk. Has no desire whatsoever to push himself.
We have been walking together around the neighborhood in the evening and he seems fine with that. It just seems like anything that may raise his heart rate, e will shy away from or stop as soon as he losing his breath a little.
When he went to stay at his other house, he didn't like sugar and drank lots of water. Now he drinks very little of this and it always avoiding his veggies and wants the carb/sugar stuff alot.
I am very concerned for his health and his self esteem. Please help! I am one to figure my stuff out on my own but I am truly at a loss here.
