Hi- I have a 5 1/2 mon old son who up until last week was sleeping as well as could be expected for an infant. He is teething, big time, and i was wondering if that was why he has started to wake up at night, every night, at 4:00 am. It sometimes takes 5 minutes to get him back to sleep, and sometimes it takes an hour and a half to get him back to sleep. I know he is not hungry, I've checked his diaper, and nothing works except giving him some tylenol, or nursing him, which adds a stomachache onto our problems. We also recently started eating solids- could this be the reason as well? Any ideas are MUCH appreciated!! TIA!!

He could very well be having teething pains during the night. Also if you recently started solids when is he eating them? does he eat them before bed? if so this may be causing some gas discomfort, if not then most likely its the teeth.

A pharmasist told me that Advil, motrin (both ibuprophin) works best for teething pain and since they last longer than tylenol would probably be best, just give it to him as close to bed as possible. It is most likely teething pain, and if he isn't hungry you should probably avoid nursin him, you want him to be able to be calmed in ways other than nursing, it'll help when he's older so he won't be so dependant on nursing for comfort.
