My daughter is now going through her second yeast infection this year. She got the first one 3 months ago after she took an antibiotic. Now she has another one.Is this normal for a child so young to have one? I am positive it is yeast because of the cottage cheese like discharge and the smell. She itches and is red.

Antibiotics will do that to people. You should let the doctor know, or call the nurse to inform the doctor. There are probiotics but sometimes they can be questionable-acidophulus. Ask the doctor if she should increase zinc in her diet. The doc might prescribe a monistat like product or diflucan (sp) that is hard on the liver though. For now tell her to use baby wipes and clean the area well then apply balmax w/zincoxide in it a small amount on the outside of the area not the inside, until she can see the doctor.

You should have this check by the doc but yeast is not uncommon. Be sure she wears only 100% cotton underwear, wipes from front to back, do not let her take tub baths with any tub of bath product such as bubble bath or bath oil, do not let her sit around in a wet damp swim suit, do not douche, be sure her pants do not fit tightly in the crotch area and be sure she eats plenty of yogurt with live active cultures or takes acidophillis capsules. You should see the doc though and let him help you decide which medication he feel will work best for your daughter. One other suggestion is that she should not wear underwear to bed so that the perineal area has a chance to breathe. If she likes nightgowns this is ideal as she can slip her underwear off once she climbs into bed.

what has always worked for my yeast infections is eating YOGURT.. MOST will do it. It has to say "contains live cultures". Eat lots of yogurt and it will help kill the yeast. You can also buy Acidolphilus over the counter and that is what kills the yeast and is in the yogurt. Hope this helps.
