I would like to do a colon cleanse, but unfortunately most of the products out there have licorice root in them which is a no-no for people with hypertension like myself. Has anyone ever done a colon cleanse with natural products. I've seen some posts of people drinking hot water with lemon - what's that for? Is that for colon cleansing? Also, can one clean the colon by just doing a juice/water fast for a few days? thx.

Unitl I read your message, I did not know that there was a problem with licorice root and HBP. I have HBP and take meds for it. I'm also taking a colon cleanse product called "Super GI Cleanse" from UniKey Health. I looked at the ingredients on the label and it listed licorice root.
I came up with this information: "Potential causes of secondary hypertension is: "An extremely high intake of licorice root extract equivalent to 25 to 40 licorice candies a day for several years." - 2000 National Women's Health Resource Centers, Inc.
So, I don't think that the minute amount of licorice root in a colon cleanse would affect HBP. I've been taking mine for nearly 2 months and my blood pressure has remained fairly constant.
If you do find more helpful information, please post what you find here. I'm going to continue to look, myself.

Could you please share your experience & info on Oxy-Clean?
I read about Oxy-Power or Powder? on one site & it said to stay "NEAR A BATHROOM" for 7 days! Don't think I could manage that!
I did like the sound of the "process" [oxygen cleansing] better than all the herbs & other cleansing, dosing, rituals I've read. Would appreciate your input on your experience.

Be happy to. FIrst off, it wasnt as bad as they say (about the being near a bathroom). I started mine on a Friday night - because the first 2 days are the worst. You have to 'dial yourself in' - meaning, figure out the dosage what will make you go 3-5 times a day. After you get your dosage figured out - its a breeze. The urges can be pretty powerful the first couple days - so I stayed home that weekend. After the weekend, it was very controllable. The stuff worked wonders for me. I felt better than I ever did during that week. I did get some weird sensations at night though for the first few days - I think that was the product cleaning out the impactions. At the end of the 7 days, they recommend doing a maintanance program of every other day. They actually say to do it for life - Im a little skeptical of that. TO be honest though, I maintained my dosage every other day for about 2 months and I had perfect bowel function - almost like I was cured of the IBS. Then I made the mistake of weening myself off of them and Im now right back to square 1. I may start all over again with it and see if I can get back to normal.

Uh, Oxy-Clean is for CLEANING your bathroom and such, not for your body.

There are two different products called "Oxyclean." One is for housecleaning and the other is a supplement for your body.

What is it you actually do for this cleanse? Do you take it by mouth and if so what exactly is this? Is this the Oxyclean - household cleaner...powder? How do you mix it for internal body consumption? I have a lot of bowel problems... mainly lazy bowels as I am not actually constipated ... soft but does not want to leave my body very quickly.

the one that I used is in pill form. You take it orally, before bed. I think its 3 pills, then you work your way up to the dosage that makes you go 3 r more times a day (see my original post for more details).

I am currently taking Super Colon Cleanse's "Day & Night" which consists of 2 times a day X 3 pills = 6 + 3 night pills an hour before you goto bed = 9. So 9 pills total. All I can say is that it is amazing. You MUST do it

I did oxy powder for 6 days and found it worse than what 'they say'. Water shooting out of my arse with force and really, I don't think it does what it claims (liquifying fecal matter stuck in your intestines - turning it to liquid, etc) all it did to me was turn my colon into a water fountain ..... My intestines still felt blocked afterward and I couldn't do it for the 10 days they recommend ... I work retail and it was just to much to be in pain like that all the time

Did anyone who ever used colon cleansing products experience really bad headaches??

This is usually temporary and due to the "detox effect" also called Herxeimer's effect. When yeast and parasites die off their body releases toxins which go through our blood stream on the way out of our system. These toxins cause headaches and fatigue. It is a sign that the product is working and you are detoxifying. The symptoms will dissipate after a few days or a week.

I am just curious as to why you need to cleanse your colon in the first place?
surely a healthy balanced diet and lots of unchlorinated/ un fluoridated water would do exactly the same without being so harsh on the system.
it doesnt seem to be as popular here in the uk as it does in USA

ok I have a question. I am going in for a colonscopy on Tuesday. I will be completely cleaned out with the stuff they give me and a day of clear or light colored liquids only so why bother with the expensive stuff, why not do it the way they do for a scope prep?

You are correct. If you are clean enough for a Gasro Doctor to examine your entire colon --- I think that is clean enough!!!

I actually tried OxyPowder a few months ago. Like everyone else in this forum, I stayed close to the bathroom the first day. I had multiple BM's that day. It was a liquedy stool, but that only lasted for the first couple of days. After that is was very easy to control. I started the 7daycleanse on a tuesday, which was probably not the smartest idea, but by the weekend, I was canoeing around the lake. I felt so much better after words. I kept up the regular maintanence until my bottle ran out. I never bought anymore, instead I try to eat more fruits and veggies. In my opinion, that's all the maintenance you need....
I would recomend it to my friends. I felt lighter after the cleanse... I don't know if that makes sense, but I just felt better.
